How to get your press release published:

  1. Call the newspaper or magazine and ask whom press releases should be submitted to and their contact information.

  2. Ask to speak to the person, introduce yourself, and in 10 seconds tell them what the press release is about. Inform them you will be mailing them a press release. Leave this information on their voicemail if unable to speak with this person.

  3. Mail a hard copy of the press release with a cover letter addressed to this person. Do this immediately after you spoke with them or left the voice message. Make the cover letter very short, reference that you spoke on the phone or left message.

  4. Three days after you mailed the press release, call the person and confirm that they received it. Ask if you can answer any questions; provide a photo and if/when it will be published.

  5. Be friendly – you will be amazed what you can get published if you make a friend.

How to write a press release:

  1. It's easy.  Just use the FundBunch press release template (download) provided and fill in the blanks.

  2. Write the story for them. Make it something they may just copy and paste into a section.  The less work the media has to do, the more likely they are to run with your story.

  3. Have large margins on the release, editors like to have space to make notes.
